The Day the Music (server) Died...

That day was Wednesday. Also the day I got a root canal. The server problem was worse.

Dead power supply, and $100 to get a used replacement. We considered our options, and decided to get a Mac mini instead. It's a small, low power box and it should be significantly faster for the apps we're using than the circa 2000 G4 that it's replacing.

So

new mini-> webserver
webserver->mailserver
mailserver->music server

Yeah, I've got a weekend of work. possibly two. Good thing I like doing this stuff.

I've never seen a Mac Mini. The last time I got to play with a Mac of any kind was, oh, 15 years ago, at Brooklyn College.

Do you and Ginger have any Halloween plans? That's the clear day/evening on my calendar and I'm currently holding it open to hear back from y'all. If you aren't free, I'll make some other plans. :)

Ginger does, we're trying to see if we can work around them. Also, going into NYC on halloween is a freakshow. Not necessarily in a bad way, but people are rather fond of heading to Fun City that night.

OK. Then I'll go ahead and plan to do my own thing Tuesday. I wasn't aware that Halloween was a particular holiday for the City when I made my plans. Should be fun, though. :)

I think that could be fun...so long as I'm not ripped off by pickpockets, my real fear in crowds.

Let's keep in touch by cell phone on Wednesday. You're obviously welcome to join us. I'd forgotten that JL and I had discussed the possibility of eating in Brooklyn since I've seen much of Manhattan and little of the remainder of the city. If it looks like that's the only time I'm going to see you, though, I guess we'll have to change our plans.
