In East Texas, of course, we called him "John Robert", because people have two names and they use them. These days, he writes a column on wine for The American Lawyer magazine and writes books about the politics.

His latest is Follow the Money: How George W. Bush and the Texas Republicans Hog-Tied America and is a clear explanation of what Texas hardball republican politics did when it came to Washington in 2000. If you want to know how we got here, read John Robert's book.

One of his two previous books is still in print, the other is not).

Please nudge again when it comes out...

Is the gist of things consistent with the statment "The first, and only, thing the Bush Whitehouse cares about is loyalty (to the Bush Whitehouse)"?

I haven't read it yet, so I can't say for sure. I suspect that given the title, it's got quite a bit about Norquist, Abramoff, Delay, K Street, and the rest of the money side of the equation.

Consider yourself nudged. I think the gist of it is "Texas Politics is about cash on the barrelhead, not ideology. That's what we sent to Washington."
