This is my brain on SF
Sep. 13th, 2006 11:58 pmI saw this picture of Angelina Jolie in a Sesheido ad and I thought "Wow! She'd make a great Servalan!"

It's a lot more than the physical resemblance, it's the "I can play the sexy villain."
Now, who to cast as Avon? That's the make-or-break casting for this. Not Roj Blake or Vila, or even Tarrant, but Avon wrong and it doesn't work...
ETA: Info on Blake's 7...
At least one commenter doesn't know what I'm talking about. So, here goes. Blake's 7 was a science fiction adventure series that ran on the BBC from 1978 to 1981. Jacqueline Pearce, who played Servalan, describes it thusly: "It's Robin Hood in space, and I'm King John." It was created by Terry Nation, who created the Daleks for Doctor Who and differs from most TV SF of the time by being darker and having more morally ambiguous characters.
Servalan is one of my favorite villains and Paul Darrow's Kerr Avon helped inspire our take on Roger Zelazny's Julian for House of Cards. Somewhere on the HoC website we have sound clips of Avon, but I can't find them this morning.
