New Jersey has a "points" system, to track and penalize repeat motor vehicle offenders.

While looking up something else entirely, I found that it's twice as bad to improperly pass a frozen dessert truck than it is to go 14 miles-per-hour over the speed limit.

Hey, rules is rules...

I actually think that makes sense, if the rule is about frozen dessert trucks that are parked and in service. The idea being that, like a school bus, this is a vehicle that could easily have small children running out of behind it with very little notice.

Not to spoil your amusement, of course. If it makes you happy to imagine the NJ legislature just has an ice cream issue, you keep on doing that. :)

I think you are missing the point. Why would you willing pass an ice cream truck without stopping?

I can only assume that if you pass a dessert truck at 14 miles over the speed limit, you are shot without trial.

Actually, this is New Jersey. If you pass a frozen dessert truck at 14 miles over the speed limit, you are buried in an oil drum under Camden Waterfront (we stopped using Giants Stadium when the Hoffa problem came up...).

The law is specific about 1-14, 15-29, and 30+.

I think there may be a loophole for 14.5 and 29.5 ...
