Working Class Blues

So, in a friend's locked post, she was discussing corporate memos, specifically the kind encouraging attendance at Mandatory Fun Events™, which are not so great.

Someone suggested that we set the memo to folk music. I think we could put many, many corporate memos to folk music. After all, folk music should be about what people know, which for many of us is cubical life. Cubicantatas...

I am now imagining an entire CD of intracompany memos set to different musical styles. A song about "Open Benefits Enrollment" set to a Clash tune, "New hours for the employee cafeteria" as a christmas carol, "Rick's going away luncheon" as a madrigal, "Annual Performance Reviews will be delayed until Next Quarter" could be a waltz.

The entire back catalog of f'edcompany.com would work, really.

A year ago Christmas I took part in a semi-impromptu (one rehearsal!) carol choir with very cleverly rewritten lyrics. I miss my coworker Jamie... she was awesome.

"Hawaiian Shirt Day " would pretty much write itself.

"Personal Improvement Plan" would of course be "Personal Development Plan" with slightly different lyrics and in a minor key (or even the Devil's Fourth).

Sounds fun. I'd love to hear it.

So the earworm that popped up from this post is "...the passengers will please refrain..."

Make of that what you will...
